January 21 - Martin Luther King, Jr Day

Monday, January 21st, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Writing in The Washington Post in 1983, Coretta Scott King provided a vision of how the holiday honoring her husband should be observed: "The holiday must be substantive as well as symbolic. It must be more than a day of celebration...Let this holiday be a day of reflection, a day of teaching nonviolent philosophy and strategy, a day of getting involved in nonviolent action for social and economic progress." As you make plans for January 21st, there are countless ways to honor Dr. King's legacy and get involved. Please see the link below for just a few of the many local events that are taking place. All would be meaningful ways to reflect, learn, and build community, as we continue to work to realize Dr. King's vision of unity and justice.
