Hello, my name is Tanya Pompa and I am currently in a Spanish for Spanish Speakers course studying the Hispanic Culture.

Cesar Chavez is a very important political figure in the Hispanic Culture. This is because he not only dedicated his life to improving treatment, pay, and working conditions for farm workers, but also because he was a dedicated union leader. He knew the harsh working condition all too well because he and his family also worked in the migrant fields. However, instead of using violent actions to bring attention to the harsh working conditions of farm workers, he was unique in that he used nonviolent means of protest. He is most commonly known for his battle against California grape growers in 1965. This labor strike improved the labor conditions and compensation for many workers. As a labor leader, Chavez led marches, called for boycotts and went on several hunger strikes. Some people even believe that his hunger strikes may have contributed to his death on April 23, 1993, in San Luis, Arizona.

Esto es porque no sólo dedicó su vida a mejorar el tratamiento, pago y condiciones de trabajadores, sino porque también era un líder dedicado a las uniones. Él sabía las condiciones duras de trabajo muy bien porque él y su familia también trabajaban en los campos de inmigrantes.
