Selena Quintanilla-Perez was born April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. At the age of 10, Selena became the lead singer in her family’s band, Selena Y Los Dinos. Selena only knew English growing up, but was eventually taught how to sing in Spanish and then learned how to speak Spanish fluently.
At the 1987 Tejano Music Awards, she won “Best Female Vocalist of the Year” and “Performer of the Year”. In 1993, she won the Grammy Award for best Mexican-American album, for her album, Selena Live! Selena opened many doors for Tejano music. Selena died on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez nació el 16 de abril 1971 en Lake Jackson, Texas. A la edad de 10 años, Selena se convirtió en la cantante principal de la banda de su familia, Selena y Los Dinos. Selena sólo sabía inglés cuando era niña pero aprendió a cantar en español y luego aprendió a hablar español con fluidez.
