Beating the Odds

Holland East student Jake Gainey is once again beating the odds. Gainey, who has cerebral palsy and limited sight, recently took on the role as team manager of the 7th & 8th grade girl basketball "White" teams.

Gainey has been attending every practice and games of the girl basketball "White" teams, giving them pep talks and pointers. He may be the smallest one on the basketball court, but he has the loudest cheers.

"I love being the manager," said Gainey.

Back in November 2016, the East K-7 student body helped raise money for Gainey's family to purchase a lift for a van that would make Jake be more mobile.
