January 16, 2017, was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

In honor and recognition of the legacy of this great man, HPS was not in session for students so that they could participate in the many activities that are available throughout the community.

Raya VonPlagenhoef is a Holland High freshman.

She won an award for the essay she entered in both the district's MLK essay contest and the one sponsored by the City of Holland Human Relations Commission.

Raya recited her essay at the Board Meeting on January 23 and received an HPS certificate of special recognition.
