HMS awarded

Holland Middle is one of 100 schools in the country awarded an "Innovation Lab Challenge" grant! The school will receive $7500 to purchase emerging technologies to help prepare students for our ever-changing world.

With this grant the school will be creating a space for all students to explore 3D printing and VR technologies. Four more 3D printers will be added to allow classes to design and print items for their classes. Whether it be designing nosecones for straw rockets in STEM class or creating cell models and printing them, the printers will be a great addition to the learning already taking place. The lab will also have 8 Oculus Quest VR headsets available for classes of students to use to support both academics and mental health programs already in place. With the help of Hope College, a scaffolding will be built that will allow the headsets to hang down and students to walk right up and be transformed into another world. Using VR, students can be transported from the ancient pyramids in Egypt right into the trenches during World War 1. The headsets also allow the students to create/design in virtual reality and then 3D print their creations!
