Poster Competition Winners

HPSProud of the excellent showing from our 4th and 5th grade Challenge Program students in the Michigan Statistics Poster Competition. This is an annual competition and all 4th/5th graders in the Challenge Program submit entries. This year, HPS was represented extremely well with 2nd Place in the state (going on to the national competition) along with 2 Honorable Mention awards (one of which is also a National Competition qualifier). The groups involved are: Honorable Mention: Eli Wolters, Austin VanBeek, Keegan Welsh; Holland Public Schools; “Are Bigger Batters Better?” (National Qualifier) (JEFFERSON) Honorable Mention: Sam Huizenga, Sam Kragt, Alejandra Rodrigues-Estrada; Holland Public Schools; “Sticky Fingers”(JEFFERSON) Second Place in the State (also National Qualifier): Liliya Pyk, Harper Schoon-Tanis; Holland Public Schools; “Picture Perfect (A Study of School Yearbooks)” (HLA) It should be noted that our top finishers, Liliya and Harper, from HLA also placed second in the state in last year's competition! The Honorable Mention winners will receive certificates from the GVSU statistics department (hosts of the contest). The second-place winners will receive certificates and a plaque to be displayed at their school as well as a CASH prize! The national qualifying posters are sent to the American Statistical Association's national contest over the summer. Pretty amazing that 2 of the 5 national qualifiers representing our state are from HPS!
