GVSU Clarinet Studio Performs for HPS Band Students!

On April 30th, the HMS 8th Grade Band and the HHS Wind Ensemble took a break from practicing for the upcoming Tulip Time Parades and were treated to a performance from the students of the Grand Valley State University Clarinet Studio, under the direction of Dr. Arthur Campbell, Professor of Music at GVSU. The students not only put on an amazing performance that showcased many different styles of music, but also took time to speak about what is involved in majoring in music at the collegiate level as well as how they find time to incorporate other areas of study and interests into their busy schedules. Jennifer Soles, a HHS alum pursuing degrees in Clarinet Performance and Natural Resource Management, took the time to demonstrate a special type of clarinet called the Basset Horn. Dr. Campbell spoke about the importance of continuing to study music from middle school into high school, giving multiple examples of how studying music teaches many life skills that are valuable no matter what career a student will eventually end up pursuing. The HPS Bands thank the GVSU Clarinet Studio members and Dr. Campbell for spending the day with us!
