Two Outstanding Students Nominated for Top Honors

Congratulations to two outstanding students nominated for top honors. Meyer Music Inc. selects top musiciains from area schools to perform as an All Star Honors orchesta and band in November. Under the direction of Western Michigan University's Professor of Orchestras Dr. Bruce Uchimora, Micah Stilwell and Anthony Johnson performed with other area nominated students in the All Star Orchestra. These students rehearsed for the first time that saturday and performed a concert that evening. Additionally Micah Stilwell won by audition a spot on the 2016 All State Symphony Orchestra which will perform in January at the Michigan Music Conference. This will be Micah's 4th year performing with one of the All State ensembles sharing that distinction with HHS Alumni cellist Graeme Richmond. Micah was also selected as an All State Choir Member making this the first time a student at Holland High received the award from two All State ensembles.

This year's High School All State Symphony Orchestra will be under the direction of Conductor Miriam Burns. Miriam Burns is in her fourth season as Music Director and Conductor of the McLean Orchestra in Virginia. She was previously Music Director of the Tallahassee and Kenosha Symphonies, and was a staff Cover Conductor of the New York Philharmonic from 1999—2007, the assistant conductor to Lorin Maazel on his inaugural tour to Asia as then new Music Director. Based in New York City, she is also the Music Director of The Orchestra of the Redeemer in New York City. The concert will be at 8:45AM on Saturday January 23 at DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids. The program will include: Espana Rhapsody for Orchestra—Emmanuel Chabrier, 1812 Festival Overture— Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
